Joe Biden & Donald Trump to meet on Wednesday for first meeting after Nov 5 polls

Washington, Nov 9: Outgoing US President Joe Biden will meet President-Elect Donald Trump on November 13 at the White House, it was announced on Saturday, the first meeting between the two leaders since the race for the presidency won by the former president.

Trump, a Republican, convincingly defeated outgoing vice president and the Democratic candidate Kamala Harris in the November 5 presidential election.

The much-anticipated meeting between 81-year-old Biden Trump, 78, will take place, days after Biden pledged an orderly transfer of power following the former president's decisive election victory.

In a short statement, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said: "At President Biden’s invitation, President Biden and President-Elect Trump will meet in the Oval Office on Wednesday at 11:00 am. Additional details to follow."

Biden's post-election invitation to Trump is a tradition held between the outgoing and incoming presidents. Trump is scheduled to be sworn in as the 47th US President on January 20, 2025.

However, when Trump lost to Biden in the 2020 election, the Republican broke with tradition and did not host any such meeting.

The two were seen last on TV screens in June for the first debate in the presidential election. Biden's poor debate appearance led to him quitting the race for the White House in July - he was replaced by Harris at the top of the Democratic Party ticket.

Trump secured increased margins than before, despite a criminal conviction and two impeachments while in office.

Exit polls showed that American voters' top concern remained the state of the economy and inflation that spiked under Biden's presidency following the COVID-19 pandemic. (Ends)
